Headquartered in Phoenix, Banner Health is one of the largest nonprofit health care systems in the country. The last of the three hospitals, to be located at the southwest corner of 48th Street and US 60 Highway in Mesa, will break ground next year. The first hospital broke ground in January in downtown Phoenix near 7th Street and McDowell Road. The rehabilitation hospital in Peoria is the second of the three planned hospitals to be built as part of that partnership. Last year, Banner Health and Select Medical announced their joint partnership that includes construction of three new acute inpatient rehabilitation hospitals in the central Phoenix, West Valley and East Valley. Peoria City Councilmember Michael Finn was also in attendance and spoke at the ceremony to lend his support to the project. In addition to officially kicking off the construction of the new facility, the groundbreaking ceremony included remarks from dignitaries from both organizations, including Becky Kuhn, chief operating officer of Banner Health, and David Chernow, president and chief executive officer of Select Medical. Webb Medical Center in Sun City West, and Banner Thunderbird Medical Center in Glendale – a Level 1 Trauma Center. Rehabilitation patients or their loved ones who are suffering from a spinal cord injury, brain injury, amputation, and neurological disorders, among other conditions, will soon benefit from the services offered at the new hospital which will be conveniently located near three other Banner Health hospitals including: Banner Boswell Medical Center in Sun City, Banner Del E. Plaza Del Rio Blvd., the three-story, 56-bed hospital will open to patients next year. Both organizations broke ground on the new Banner Rehabilitation Hospital – West in Peoria on April 25.
